Phil and Karen Thomas
Pastor Thomas serves Colonial Hills Baptist Church as the business manager and Senior Saints’ pastor. Prior to coming to Colonial, he served part-time in church youth and music ministries in Florida and full-time with the Ron Comfort Evangelistic Team. He enjoys visiting and traveling with the Senior Saints and teaching the Berean Sunday school class. He and his wife, Karen, have three grown daughters.
Pastor Phil Thomas and his wife, Karen, have served at Colonial for twenty-five years. Pastor Thomas joined the staff in 1985 as the business manager; in 1986 he also became the Senior Saints' pastor. The Thomases enjoy ministering to and with those over fifty-five, who continue to be faithful to God and His local church.
Phil graduated from college in 1967 with a degree in business administration. Later that year he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. Phil and Karen met in 1968 in New Jersey and married in 1970.
In 1972 a job transfer took Phil and Karen to Hollywood, Florida, where they became active in their local church. They surrendered for full-time Christian service during a revival meeting in December of 1977. As a result of that decision, Phil moved with his wife to Anderson, Indiana, in 1979, to become the business manager for the Ron Comfort Evangelistic Association. They operated the home office and traveled throughout the U.S. in advance work for Dr. Comfort’s meetings. They sometimes participated in the evangelistic meetings, including mission trips to St. Croix and St. Maarten. During this time they also ministered in their local church, where Phil served as the music director and Karen enjoyed helping with the ladies’ ministries and the senior citizen ministry.
In 1985 Pastor Thomas became the business manager at Colonial. He pursues his financial responsibilities with the desire to be found a faithful steward, to do all things decently and in order, and to be a blessing to our missionary families. Karen, a missionary kid herself, shares Phil’s burden for missions. A highlight of their year is Colonial’s annual missions conference.
Phil and Karen enjoy traveling. They co-hosted a church trip to Israel in 1999 and a spiritual heritage tour to England and Scotland in 2001. Trips with the Senior Saints have taken them to the Canadian Rockies, Vancouver Island, Nova Scotia, New England, Alaska, and Hawaii. Phil and Karen love ministering with the Senior Saints, who exercise their spiritual gifts in the church as they mentor younger folks and share the wisdom the Lord has given them. Their faithfulness through blessing and adversity is an encouraging example to others.
