The Colonial Hills Baptist Church Military Support Group was established in January 2007. The purpose of the group is threefold:
1. To encourage our church member’s family and friends who are serving in the military by sending care packages.
2. To pray for the specific needs of our military personnel.
3. To provide literature for the troops that presents the gospel and encourages them spiritually.
The Support Group collects items and packs an average of 40 care packages three times a year—in April, August, and December. In the five years of our existence, we have sent approximately 600 care packages.
The items included in the packages are donated by the members of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. After the boxes are packed, addressed, and prepared for shipping by the support group, they are made available to the church congregation to be picked up and mailed. The boxes are taken on a first come first serve basis and then mailed by the individual members.
Different items are emphasized in each care package event:
What are some of the things that you can do to help the support group?
_BOX PACKING - Saturday, December 6
The Military Support Group will be packing the boxes on Saturday morning, Dec. 6th, and they will be available for church members to pick up for mailing on Sunday morning, the 7th.
There will be a display table in the church foyer beginning this Sunday, Nov. 23rd, which will include a donation basket. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, Dec. 3rd.
Suggested donations are:
Protein or granola bars
tuna/chicken salad kits
Jif to Go
Coffee (individual packets or 1 lb. unbreakable cans)
Hot chocolate packets
The troops especially appreciate pictures, letters of encouragement, cards, and notes of appreciation. One of the response letters that was sent to us from a deployed Staff Sergeant said the following:
“Thank you so much for the care packages. It’s always a great feeling to read the cards from children and people who care about us. Thank you for all the goodies too. The cookies were eaten within the first couple days. They were delicious. Thanks again for your support. God Bless.
